Note from the Music Director
So how does Boston Musica Viva’s 42nd season compare to The Times’ enthusiastic assessment of BMV prior to our trip to London last March? While this season’s content is varied, the tone of our concerts and our approach remain the same. For one thing, Bernie Hoffer’s new “Cosmic” Piano Trio is seriously brilliant rather than “slickly brilliant.” For another, we’ll perform works by 14 composers whose music we did not take to London.
Part of the “fun” of BMV concerts comes from the joy that my outstanding musician colleagues and I get from performing such exciting and diverse music for you. As always, our programs are chosen to keep you up-to-date with the latest developments in music. Brand new works are combined with works of the recent past to give you a sense of the evolution and revolution of music.
Moreover, there’s a special atmosphere at our concerts. During the ensemble’s visit to London, the BBC’s Sean Rafferty billed BMV as, “the new music ensemble with a smile.” Paul Driver of the London Sunday Times wrote, “I loved Pittman’s drily analytic introductions—no American schmaltz here.” Our composers and I give brief verbal program notes before each piece to heighten your enjoyment of the music. At our post-concert receptions, you get to meet and chat with the composers, our wonderful musicians, and your fellow audience members about what you’ve just heard.
Please join us as a subscriber and take an active part in the evolution and revolution of music.
