John Huggler: Serenata
Nicholas Maw: La vita nuova

World premiere bagatelle
by Kathryn Salfelder and Andy Vores!

Germinate and Concerto di camera V, new BMV commissions by composers Yi-Hui Chang and Bernard Hoffer, respectively, highlight the virtuosity and dexterity of our core ensemble. Completing our quartet of world premieres, short new works by Kathryn Salfelder and Andy Vores written in our honor round out an array of celebratory bagatelles written for us this season.

For Nicholas Maw’s song cycle La vita nuova, a work we have wanted to reprise for some time, we welcome back soprano Sarah Pelletier and a host of our favorite guest musicians to create an expanded ensemble of music with influences as diverse as Benjamin Britten and Richard Strauss. From that same era, John Huggler’s Serenata is an exemplary commission from 1977.

Don’t miss this enthralling and adventurous evening of music and fun in Pickman Hall at the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, a venue rich with Boston Musica Viva history!
